Solenoid valves are industrial equipment controlled by electromagnetics, which adjust the direction, flow, speed and other parameters of the medium in industrial control systems.

How to select solenoid valve? Pipeline, fluid, pressure, electrical parameters, action type and special requirements must be comprehensively considered.

1. Pipeline parameters

  •  Port size: Determine the diameter (DN) size according to the inner diameter of the pipeline on site or the flow requirements.

  •  Joint size: Generally, for >DN50, a flange interface should be selected, and for ≤DN50, it can be freely selected according to user needs.

2. Fluid parameters

  • Corrosive fluids: corrosion-resistant solenoid valves such as VNB solenoid valves and all-stainless steel solenoid valves are suitable; edible ultra-clean fluids: food-grade stainless steel solenoid valves are suitable.

  • High-temperature fluids: solenoid valves made of high-temperature resistant electrical materials and sealing materials should be selected, and piston-type structures should be selected. Such as SLH/VPCT high temperature solenoid valves.

  • Fluid state: gaseous, liquid or mixed state, especially when the diameter is greater than DN25, it must be distinguished. Such as 2W direct acting solenoid valves.

  • Fluid viscosity: usually below 50cSt can be selected arbitrarily. If it exceeds this value, when the diameter is greater than 15mm, use a multi-function solenoid valve, such as VNB solenoid valve; when the diameter is less than 15mm, use a high-viscosity solenoid valve.

3. Pressure parameters

  • Nominal pressure: This parameter has the same meaning as other general valves and is determined according to the nominal pressure of the pipeline.

  • Working pressure: If the working pressure is low, the direct-acting or step-by-step direct-acting principle must be used; when the minimum working pressure difference is above 0.04Mpa, direct-acting solenoid valves, step-by-step direct-acting solenoid valves, and pilot-operated solenoid valves can all be used.

4. Electrical selection

The voltage specifications should preferably be AC220V and DC24, which is more convenient.

5. Continuous working time

  • When the solenoid valve needs to be opened for a long time, and the duration is longer than the closing time, a normally open solenoid valve should be selected.

  • When the opening time is short or the opening and closing time is not much, a normally closed solenoid valve should be selected.

  • For some working conditions used for safety protection, such as furnace and kiln flame monitoring, normally open solenoid valves cannot be selected, and long-term energized solenoid valves should be selected.

6. Select auxiliary functions according to environmental requirements

  • Explosive environment: Solenoid valves with corresponding explosion-proof grades must be selected. Such as 2S stainless steel solenoid valves.

  • When there is backflow of fluid in the pipe, a solenoid valve with a check function can be selected.

  • When the solenoid valve needs to be manually operated on site, a solenoid valve with a manual function can be selected. Such as a safety valve

  • Waterproof and dustproof varieties (protection level above IP54) should be selected for outdoor installation or dusty occasions. Such as VPCYF pulse valves.

  • Submersible solenoid valves (protection level above IP68) must be used for fountains. Such as SLDF water solenoid valves.

Types of solenoid valve

Valve type Feature Applicaton
General Purpose Solenoid Valve Normally Closed (NC) or Normally Open (NO), available in brass or stainless steel. Suitable for use with air, water, oil and inert gases. Industrial automation, HVAC systems, water treatment and agriculture.
Direct Acting Solenoid Valve Small, fast response, direct operation without pilot pressure. Small flow capacity. Medical equipment, pneumatic systems and precision instruments.
Pilot-Diaphragm Solenoid Valve Requires minimum pressure differential and has higher flow rates than direct-acting valves. Irrigation systems, water treatment and industrial automation.
High Pressure Solenoid Valve The robust valve body, with reinforced seals, is able to handle pressures up to several hundred bar. Oil and gas, aerospace and hydraulic systems.
High Temperature Solenoid Valve Heat-resistant materials, special seals and insulation to withstand high temperatures (up to 200-300°C). Industrial boilers, sterilization equipment and chemical processing.
High Frequency Solenoid Valve Fast switching, durable coil design, low internal friction. Packaging machinery, textile machinery and automated production lines.
Angle Seat Valve It adopts electromagnetic pilot valve pneumatic operation, with large flow and self-cleaning valve seat. Food and beverage, pharmaceutical and industrial cleaning systems.
Under Water Solenoid Valve Waterproof design, stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant materials. Water treatment, aquaculture and underwater equipment.
RO Machine Solenoid Valve Compact, corrosion-resistant, and designed specifically for reverse osmosis systems. Residential, commercial and industrial water purification.
Dust Collector Pulse Valve High impact diaphragm for fast response and long service life. Cement plants, steel mills and industrial ventilation systems.
Miniature Solenoid Valve Small size, low power consumption and precise control. Medical equipment, laboratory instruments and portable devices.
